The inmyskin project, series now presents a chat with Jennifer:

one: what is your name and where are you located ?

J - Jennifer Flores, Located in Brooklyn, New York.

two: what do you feel is your calling in life ?

J - My purpose in life is to inspire others to use storytelling and writing as tools for personal healing and transformation.

three: when did you realize your self-worth and how has this journey of self-discovery been for you ? what have you learned the most about yourself ?

J - The journey of self-discovery and self-actualization has been a combination of pain and joy, and still is. The truth is, the process of unlearning and re-learning is not always an easy one. It requires courage, consistency and the will to heal, transform and grow. Simply put, you have to want it. You have to want to change the narrative of your life and then put action behind your faith. I've learned that I am resilient and that everything I needed was always within me; I just needed to quiet the noise from the outside world and listen to my inner voice. Once I did that, I connected to the core of who I am - the core that I am currently still learning about.

four: how has your struggles helped you to become a better woman ?

J - I believe that struggle is divine. Struggle can be a catalyst to do great things if we use it for that purpose. It has taught me to be more understanding, compassionate and gentle with human beings. And, it has inspired me to help and support others in discovering their own power + purpose.

five: who or what motivates you to create ?

J - Everyone and everything.

six: what is your long time passion in life ?

J - To be a full-time writer and space creator. I want to create safe spaces for people to connect and converse about everything.

seven: if you could give any tips or advice to the young girls and women around the world who suffer with loving and accepting who they are, what would you say ?

J -  I would say, "Let go of that story. You were already born great. The world makes a huge profit from women feeling inadequate. It is time for you to take back your power and start helping yourself and other women see that there is a huge profit to be made in accepting yourself, feeling confident and knowing that you are a powerful being."

eight: what do you feel needs to be told to our beautiful women of color ? do you feel that us women of color hear those words often ? if not, what can we do as a community to change that. . .

J - You are enough. You can do and have it all. Stop comparing yourself to the bar or standards set by society. This world needs your uniqueness so let us see all of you." I believe if we look hard enough, women of color definitely receive affirmations and words of encouragement. If we choose to see that the people we are surrounded by love and affirm us in their own way, then we will see that as a community it is there.
