+ ella

The inmyskin Project now presents a talk with Ella:

one: what is your name and where are you located ?

E - Elise, I just prefer Ella. I'm located in Philadelphia, northeastern section.

two: what do you feel is your calling in life ?

E - I believe inspiring others is what I'm meant to do, inspiring others through my example and just being that shoulder for others to lean on and things like this.

three: when did you realize your self-worth and how has this journey of self-discovery been for you? What have you learned the most about yourself ?

E - I realized my self-worth quite recently, around the beginning months of 2015 and it was honestly due to a rough ending of a relationship. This journey so far has been quite lovely, I've found such a calming and peace within my own mind because of this. My only regret is not experiencing this any sooner. I've learned that I haven't ever stood for what I deserved, I've learned that I'm quite soft hearted, which was something odd for me to discover and I've also realized that I'm stronger mentally than I thought I originally was.

four: how has your struggles helped you to become a better woman?

E - They have helped me realize how strong women are and how we are honestly the back bone and strongholds of families. In realizing that, I've taken on more responsibilities within my family in more ways than one. Rather it be, taking care of the children in my family, settling disputes, taking on the spirit of the older women in my family and by doing such, I've been able to make wiser decisions, not only in my household but also in my every day life. It's allowed me to be more focused on what I love doing so that I can one day care for my own family without depending on others.

five: who or what motivates you to create?

E - Life. I know that's such a broad answer but I explain it like this: I allow life to be the paint and my paper and blog to be the canvas. I use every experience and lesson, small or large, to inspire everything I do. Especially when it's an issue that may have affected me negatively, I use all my energy in any way to create something that will allow me to later view that experience as a positive one.

six: what is your long time passion in life ?

E - Writing. Writing is what took me out of a dark time of depression and ED's and things such as that, and allowed me to express myself. I write better than I speak, it's as if writing was my first language.

seven: If you could give any tips or advice to young girls / women around the world who suffer with loving and accepting who they are, what would you say?

E - I would tell them to let go. I know it's easier said than done, but let every piece of insecurity of any sort go. I had to began telling myself how beautiful I was, listing my better attributes, and it helped in so many ways. Don't depend on every one else to see the beautiful colors you create with your very being because so many others are colorblind. Be your own motivation and when others see you love yourself unconditionally, others will too.

eight: what do you feel needs to be told to our beautiful women of color ? Do you feel that us women of color hear those words often? If not, what can we do as a community to change that ?

E -  I feel like we all need to be reminded of what we truly are, beautiful, legendary, strong, and simply amazing. I don't believe our women hear that nearly enough from anyone, not from each other, definitely not from anyone outside of our own race and that's for various reasons of course. Our black men have sadly been tossed about mentally, following the trends of this wanting someone 'foreign' and things like that, not realizing so many  of those other nationalities have been blessed with the African American decent as well. Then, there's our fellow sisters who put each other down so much. If we all began to build each other up, building up our own men and women, others looking from the outside in will too began to notice our beauty. It's all about uplifting each other, that's what we need to do.
