+ Nik Adams
The inmyskin project, series now presents a talk with nik:
one: what is your name and where are you located ?
N - Peace, my name is Nik Adams and I am located in New York City.
two: what do you feel is your calling in life ?
N - I'm not sure if I know what my calling in life is as of yet. My journey has led me down the path of helping others, so for now I suppose that's my calling.
three: when did you realize your self-worth and how has this journey of self-discovery been for you ? what have you learned the most about yourself ?
N - I realized my self-worth at the beginning stages of creating my platform Womanhood. Womanhood made me realize that Women matter, our stories are important, and sisterhood is necessary. I was placed in a position to lead hundreds of women both on and offline. I am a voice, and with the responsibility of leading if you aren't aware of who you are you wont go very far. My self-discovery journey has been magnificent. I've opened myself up to receiving the good, I've traveled more, and met amazing women.
I've learned on my journey to self-discovery that greatness take time. Anything that I commit my time to I allow it to flow organically. Now there is some discipline involved, but I'm very aware of my work style.
four: how has your struggles helped you to become a better woman ?
N - My struggles made me who I am. There was a point in time where I was very reserved about my past, family, and relationships. I've realized that transparency and sharing things that you're comfortable about opening up to aren't harmful. They help people connect and relate to you.
five: who or what motivates you to create ?
N - I'm motivated purely on my will to succeed.
six: what is your long time passion in life ?
N - My long time passion has always been Art. Art is my freedom.
seven: if you could give any tips or advice to the young girls and women around the world who suffer with loving and accepting who they are, what would you say ?
N - To any woman or young girl reading this I want to remind you that YOU MATTER.
Here are a few short reminders to get you focused.
• Be selfish sometimes.
• Not everything will go as planned and that's okay.
• Be Professional
• Don't do anything that doesn't agree with your spirt.
• Know that your journey will change.
• Stop comparing yourself to other people. You have no idea what it took to get where they are. Stay focused.
• Nothing is unachievable.
• Surround yourself with people who love you.
eight: what do you feel needs to be told to our beautiful women of color ? do you feel that us women of color hear those words often ? if not, what can we do as a community to change that. . .
N - Women of color need to hear that they are perfect just the way they are. We cannot allow stereotypes and hate do keep us from progressing. We need to support each other and share information to help each other grow. Women of color don't hear that they are perfect just the way they are. When I think about what women of color need to hear I am reminded of Lauryn Hill's "Interlude 5" where she says ... "You already are the standard. What are you trying to fit into a standard for? We were each created to be individual standards, you know. And we’re trying to fit into a standard" . Change starts with US. We can start by standing up for one another, supporting other sisters, calling people out for insulting us etc. We have some what of a way to go, but I'm confident that the change will occur.
