+ Nashai Catlett
THE IN MY SKIN PROJECT SERIES & NASHAI CATLETT.
ONE: WHAT IS YOUR NAME & WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
N - Nashai Catlett from Philadelphia, PA (West Philly).
TWO: WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS YOUR CALLING IN LIFE?
N - I feel like my calling in life is first, to write. I love journalism. I am so happy when I can do a review, profile, or blog. I haven't felt this completed ever.
THREE: WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOUR SELF-WORTH AND HOW HAS THE JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY BEEN FOR YOU? WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF?
N - I realized my self worth, about a year ago. This journey was horrible, because I found out the hard way, putting myself onto a man who did not love me. Falling for someone who doesn't care about you is a lesson that I would not wish on anyone, but a lesson nonetheless. I've learned how forgiving I am. No matter what his actions told, whenever I was needed, I came. This also taught me how strong I am, I had to let go of that love and realize that he was not worthy. I also am able to love someone else, even after it all. I never blame what I do for my future on my past.
FOUR: HOW HAS YOUR STRUGGLES HELPED YOU tO BECOME A BETTER WOMAN?
N - My struggles taught me how much courage I have. I have and still go through unfortunate situations, but I am able to move gracefully and happily on this earth. I am strong.
FIVE: WHO OR WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CREATE?
N - My life motivates me to create. I have horrible days sometimes, and I never know how to turn them around. I write to help people like me. This could be a girl upset over a guy and needs to cheer up all the way to someone who is having family issues. I want to help people escape their issues, and maybe give recommendations to those problems.
SIX: WHAT IS YOUR LONG TIME PASSION IN LIFE?
N - Traveling with my friends is a long time passion of mine, as well as taking care of my current and future family.
SEVEN: IF YOU COULD GIVE ANY TIPS OR ADVICE TO THE YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WHO SUFFER WITH LOVING & ACCEPTING WHO THEY ARE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
N - There is a domino effect to not loving yourself, and you do not want to be that beautiful, but sad girl. You don’t love yourself, so you turn to other people or things to love you. No, you love yourself because no one is like you. It sounds cliché, but it is true. Your confidence and positive energy will shine brighter than the sun.
EIGHT: WHAT DO YOU FEEL NEEDS TO BE TOLD TO OUR BEAUTIFUL WOMEN OF COLOR? DO YOU FEEL THAT WE WOMEN OF COLOR HEAR THOSE WORDS OFTEN? IF NOT, WHAT CAN WE DO AS A COMMUNITY TO CHANGE THAT?
N - The difference between women of color and everyone else, is that everyone else was brought up being told how superior or beautiful they are. We did not get that. As of now, we are pushing through, and our culture is beaming, but as a community we need to, again cliché, come together, Cheer each other on. Make a stranger smile and tell her she’s beautiful.
